The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) initiated an annual award to honour Professor Emeritus Roy Billinton. The award includes a $3,000 honorarium and will recognize outstanding individuals for contributions to electric power system reliability. The creation and naming of this award underscores his valuable work and the gratitude of many people including his 120 PhD and Masters students.

NSERC Tier 1 Chair Safa Kasap has been elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the highest scientific accolade in Canada. Safa is a pioneer in electronic and optoelectronic materials and devices research, from fundamental principles to direct conversion x-ray image detectors for medical imaging. He is the author of two acclaimed textbooks and the editor of a major handbook. His distinctive research and has been published in more than 200 refereed journal papers, and as several book chapters.

Our Engineers Rise Above All Others. In the prestigious NASA sponsored 2007 Space Elevator competition, the University of Saskatchewan Space Design Team (USST) finished first again this year in Salt Lake City, Utah, October 19-21.
